Excuse Me, This Is My Room

Raw

It’s 11:00 PM. I’m in my dorm room, trying to get some work done. Suddenly, there’s a loud knock at the door. I open it to find one of my roommates, who immediately starts barging in without waiting for an invite.

«Excuse me, this is my room,» I say, trying to sound assertive.

«Oh, sorry,» he replied, not sounding very sorry at all. «I thought this was the living room.»

«No, this is my room,» I say. «The living room is down the hall.»

«Right, sorry,» he says, still not sounding very sorry.

And with that, he finally leaves my room. I’m left feeling annoyed and violated. My personal space has been invaded, and I didn’t even have a chance to say no.

It’s moments like this that I’m reminded of why I prefer to live alone. I value my privacy and I don’t like feeling like I have to share my space with someone else. When I’m in my own space, I can relax and be myself without having to worry about someone else’s presence.

Do you have a roommate? How do you feel about sharing your living space with someone else?
