A Record of a Mortal’s Journey to Immortality
Chapter 90 – The Challenge of the Netherworld
The Netherworld was a place where the strong devoured the weak. It was a place filled with all sorts of vicious creatures, and it was also the place where the cultivators of the Mortal World went to temper themselves.
At this moment, in a dark and dreary corner of the Netherworld, a black-robed figure was slowly making his way forward.
This figure was none other than Qin Wentian. After he had left the Chu Country, he had rushed straight towards the Netherworld.
On the way, he had encountered all sorts of vicious beasts, but he had easily slain them all. The strength he possessed now was no longer something that the creatures of the Mortal World could compare to.
However, even with his current strength, he still didn’t dare to rashly charge into the depths of the Netherworld. After all, there were still many dangers lurking in the shadows, and he didn’t want to take any unnecessary risks.
Qin Wentian continued to move forward cautiously. Suddenly, a loud roaring sound rang out, causing the ground to tremble. A gigantic creature that looked like a toad leaped out from the darkness, its mouth wide open as it attempted to devour Qin Wentian.
Qin Wentian’s eyes flickered as he dodged to the side. At the same time, he raised his hand and released a palm strike towards the toad.
«Boom!» A terrifying force exploded outwards, causing the toad to be blasted apart.
After slaying the toad, Qin Wentian continued onwards. However, not long after he took a few steps, he suddenly sensed a terrifying aura closing in on him from behind.
Qin Wentian’s expression turned solemn as he turned around and saw a gigantic creature that looked like a python rushing towards him.
The python opened its mouth wide, revealing razor-sharp fangs as it snapped at Qin Wentian. Qin Wentian’s eyes flickered as he dodged to the side once again. At the same time, he raised his hand and released another palm strike.
«Boom!» The python was blasted apart by the force of the palm strike, but Qin Wentian didn’t stop there. He continued forwards, moving as fast as he could.
Suddenly, he sensed another several auras closing in on him from ahead. Qin Wentian’s eyes turned cold as he raised his hand, and a ball of light shot outwards.
«Boom!» The ball of light exploded in mid-air, and a terrifying force radiated outwards, blasting apart the creatures that were rushing towards Qin Wentian.
Qin Wentian didn’t stop to rest as he continued onwards. The deeper he went into the Netherworld, the more powerful the creatures he encountered became.
However, Qin Wentian didn’t care. He continued to move forward, slaying all the vicious creatures that dared to stand in his way.
After travelling for an unknown amount of time, Qin Wentian finally arrived at his destination.
In front of him was an extremely tall mountain. This mountain towered into the clouds, and it was so high that it seemed to be touching the sky.
Qin Wentian slowly made his way up the mountain. The higher he climbed, the more he could sense a terrifying aura emanating from within.
Finally, he arrived at the summit of the mountain. He saw a gigantic palace standing there, and in front of the palace was an elderly man.
The elderly man’s back was facing Qin Wentian, and he was currently looking at the clouds in the sky with his hands behind his back.
Qin Wentian slowly walked forwards and stopped in front of the elderly man. The elderly man slowly turned around, and when he saw Qin Wentian, he smiled and said, «I’ve been waiting for you.»
Qin Wentian’s eyes flickered as he asked, «You are?»
«I am the patriarch of the Yuan Clan. You can call me Yuan Tong,» the elderly man replied.
«The patriarch of the Yuan Clan?» Qin Wentian frowned. He had never heard of this Yuan Clan before.
«You can think of the Yuan Clan as the guardian clan of the Netherworld. Our clan has existed since the ancient times, and our members are all experts in the Dao of Death,» Yuan Tong explained.
«I see.» Qin Wentian nodded in understanding. No wonder he had never heard of this clan before. It was because they were experts in the Dao of Death, and the Dao of Death was something that Qin Wentian knew nothing about.
«You should already know why I’ve called you here,» Yuan Tong said. Qin Wentian nodded, but he didn’t say anything.
«You have already reached the third level of the Mortal Martial Realm, and you are already very close to the fourth level. I can tell that you are a rare talent, and I want you to join my Yuan Clan,» Yuan Tong continued.
«What are the benefits of joining your clan?» Qin Wentian asked.
«If you join my clan, I will be able to help you breakthrough to the fourth level of the Mortal Martial Realm. Once you reach that level, you will be able to enter the Yuan Palace and start comprehending the Dao of Death,» Yuan Tong replied.
Qin Wentian’s eyes flickered as he asked, «What if I don’t want to join your clan?»
«If you don’t want to join, then I can only give you two choices. The first choice is to leave immediately and never come back. The second choice is to stay here and fight me.»
«Fight you?» Qin Wentian’s eyes narrowed. He could sense an extremely powerful aura emanating from Yuan Tong, and he knew that he wouldn’t be able to defeat him.
«Don’t worry, I won’t kill you. I just want to test your strength,» Yuan Tong said. Qin Wentian’s eyes flickered as he thought about it for a moment before he finally nodded.
«Very well, let’s start then,» Yuan Tong said as he took a step forwards. A terrifying aura immediately enveloped Qin Wentian.
Qin Wentian’s expression turned solemn as he circulated the qi in his body to its utmost limits. A moment later, he took a step forwards and smashed his fist towards Yuan Tong.
«Boom!» A terrifying force exploded outwards, causing the ground to tremble. Qin Wentian was blasted backwards by the force of the impact, and he sprawled onto the ground.
Yuan Tong slowly made his way towards Qin Wentian and extended his hand, helping Qin Wentian to his feet.
«You are indeed very strong. I can tell that you have great potential, and I hope that you will join my clan.»
Qin Wentian’s eyes flickered as he finally nodded. After all, he was interested in the Dao of Death, and the Yuan Clan was the only place where he could learn about it.
Thus, Qin Wentian officially became a member of the Yuan Clan.
